Quest Bar Ice Cream Cones With Two Healthy Ice Cream Recipes
Is it possible to make a simple, healthy, protein-packed Quest Bar Ice Cream Cone? The answer is YES! Good news for all of us fitness fanatics who prefer to #CheatClean for our desserts, rather than to dive headfirst into a tub of Ben & Jerry's.
After a recent visit to Baskin Robbins (I swear I only ordered a small scoop!) I found myself craving one of their waffle cones. I can't eat waffle cones because I avoid gluten like the devil, and the only gluten-free ice cream cones I'm aware of are the boring, cardboard-like cup cones. Yuck. I couldn't get the thought of a crispy waffle cone out of my mind so I decided to make my own.
Once again Quest Bars to the rescue!
To make the cones, I used my grandmother's pizzelle iron. If you're unfamiliar with this little gadget, it is an Italian cookie machine. It look similar to a waffle iron, but has smaller grooves and makes absolutely delicious cookies. I have NOT tried the recipe with a regular waffle maker, so experiment at your own risk. I can only vouch for the pizzelle machine. If you don't own one, check with a good Italian family in your neighborhood. Otherwise if you're in the area, you're free to borrow mine!
I did go a little crazy with the cones and dipped the tops in chocolate and sprinkled them with just a few colorful sprinkles. OK, maybe more than a few, but think of the calories I saved with the homemade ice cream!
- 1 Quest Bar (I used Chocolate Brownie)
- Cooking spray
- Break the Quest bar into two halves.
- Preheat a pizzelle Iron. Spray well with cooking spray. Working with ONE piece of Quest Bar at a time, fill a space on the pizzelle iron with one of the Quest bar halves.
- Press down lid tightly and let cook for approximately 25-30 seconds.
- Warning: You are working with an extremely hot cookie! Remove Quest cone from iron and, working quickly, fold it into an ice cream cone shape. Hold it in place for a few seconds until set.
- Repeat with remaining Quest bar half. Let cones cool.
- Optional: Dip cones into melted dark chocolate and cover with sprinkles!
And now for the healthy and delicious ice cream recipes!
Yonanas Banana Ice Cream
I'm almost embarrassed to publish this recipe because it is so simple. Run two frozen bananas through a Yonanas machine and voila! Ice cream.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk Protein Ice Cream
1/2 cup peanut butter protein powder (I used Syntha 6)
1/4 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
1 square dark chocolate, chopped.
Combine all ingredients in bowl. Place in freezer and freeze for 1-2 hours.
Are you an ice cream fan? Do you prefer the real thing or do you make healthy alternatives?? I'd love for you to share your answers in the comments!
