perfect health diet shopping list border I’ve done a lot of my diets in my time.  There are short-term, hardcore “fit into my skinny jeans by Friday” weight loss plans, and there are more moderate, longer-term “take off your winter hibernation pounds in the next 90 days.”

And then there are what I like to call eating “templates.”  These are lifestyle eating plans, such as vegan, paleo or South Beach.  Food philosophies, if you will.

The Perfect Health Diet is a sane eating template.

One of my favorite nutritional templates is the Perfect Health Diet.  It’s almost unfortunate that the word “diet” is in the title, because the Perfect Health Diet is really focused on eating for good health.  Yes, there is a chapter in the book on weight loss, but it’s almost an afterthought.

With good reason.

The main premise of the book is to provide the body with all the nutrients it needs in the proper quantities for optimum health.  Authors Paul Jaminet and Shou-Ching Jaminet are scientists, and back up their claims with research, studies and footnotes well beyond my ability to understand.  Thankfully they dumb down the info for the average person to understand.

The Perfect Health Diet appeals to me, as a food template for my life, because it includes foods I enjoy eating.  It’s not low carb, as in true Paleo, and it’s not super high in veggies, as in a vegetarian plan.  It eliminates some of my problem foods, like wheat and legumes, and adds in white and sweet potatoes and white rice which are foods I like.

Eating according to the Perfect Health Diet guidelines, for me, is fairly simple.  No it doesn’t include my chemical coffee concoction (otherwise known as Sugar-Free CoffeeMate), but my favorite treat food, chocolate, is on the plan.

And here you have it.  Please note that the foods on this list are based on my reading of the book.  It is not a comprehensive list of foods allowed on the plan.  The printable shopping list is not endorsed by Paul Jaminet or the Perfect Health Diet.  Please read the book for details as to how much of each of the food items are recommended for good perfect health!
