Review: Long Run Relief with PRO Compression Socks

For about five minutes.

Then I quickly shower, dress, and put on my compression socks.

Why wear compression socks?

Aren’t compression socks those goofy looking knee-highs that you wear after surgery or if you’re, um, older than I am?

Nope.   Compression is cool.  All the athletes were compression socks.

The biggest reason (for me) is that slipping on a pair of compression socks after a long run or hard workout reduces muscle soreness and speeds recovery.  Period.

PRO Compression Marathon Socks are the bomb.

I recently had a chance to try a pair of PRO Compression socks.  This was perfect timing because I’ve just gotten back into half marathon training after a 2.5 year knee-surgery-induced hiatus.  So I feel like a beginner.  Or at least my muscles do.

I tried out the black Marathon socks.  The first thing I noticed was that they are MADE IN THE USA.  Hooray!  I’m not a zealot about it, but I prefer to buy products made right here in the USA.  So PRO Compression scored right away.

True Graduated Compression – huh?

The Marathon socks are full length – up to the knee – and they use  something called  true graduated compression.  That’s not mumbo jumbo, folks, it means that the socks promote circulation by pushing fluid from your feet and ankles up toward your knees.  So your muscles get increased blood flow and along with that comes nutrients and oxygen to help refresh and repair those muscles.  This design also helps reduce swelling and the dreaded inflammation we get after a long run, while providing support to the muscles and tendons.

I’d rather wear a cute sock than pop an anti-inflammatory pill, thank you very much.

The socks were tighter than the compression socks I have in my drawer, but in a good way.  Pulling the sock on was the challenge – reminded me of trying to shimmy into skinny jeans right after they come out of the dryer– but once I got them in proper position it was heaven.

Compression feels good when your muscles are overworked.

I’ve worn the socks after my long runs two weeks in a row and I’m actually wearing them now as I type.  PRO Compression socks are comfortable enough to wear all day and my toes don’t feel cramped.  The socks are made of wicking material so my legs and feet stay cool and comfortable.

My usual practice is to put the socks on after my shower and wear them until bed time.  The next day I feel great!

Compression is not just for runners.

Not a runner?  You can still reap the benefits of increased circulation and reduce tired, achy muscles.  If you spend hours on your feet you’re a great candidate for compression gear.  Why didn’t I remember this when I spent 10 hours on my feet working our church’s fish fry every Friday during Lent??

The verdict?  PRO Compression socks are a winner.

I believe compression socks after a workout is a great way to soothe tired muscles, and the PRO Compression socks are a fantastic addition to my workout sock drawer.  In fact, I recommended them to a few new running friends this week!

I love that PRO Compression offers a bit more compression than the brands I currently own.  I am thrilled that they are made in the USA.  And my inner running diva loves all the cool colors and patterns that PRO Compression offers.  Just think of the race day costume possibilities…
