On Thursday morning, Mr. WillRunForChocolate sent me a link to an Amazon Local deal - it was for a gluten free frozen food sampler pack from Beetnik Foods. First let me say that Mr. WillRunForChocolate is thrifty by nature, but he does support my gluten free diet. Oh, and my concert habit too. :)
An aside: although I order from Amazon almost weekly (don't share that fact with Mr. WillRunForChocolate!), I had never heard of Amazon Local. It reminds me of Groupon. Here is an explanation of Amazon Local from their website: Amazon Local is a platform website where customers can discover deeply discounted products and services not only from local businesses, but also from national chains and online merchants. So I followed the link and was pleased to discover that for $69 I could get all THIS:

I like food, I like stocking my freezer, and I like a good deal. So I ordered the package. I figured that even if the food was mediocre, it was a good deal. And personally, I am not particularly picky about my food these days. If it is QUICK, TASTY and SOMEWHAT HEALTHY I'm all over it.
On Friday afternoon, a package containing all these goodies was waiting on my doorstep! (The food is packed in a cooler with dry ice and sent via overnight shipping. Everything was totally frozen when I opened the box.)

I am excited to try all the goodies. Of particular interest to me are the twice baked potatoes (yum) and the bacon wrapped tenderloins. If I can cook the tenderloins without mangling them, then I'll chalk it up as a success. I cannot cook steak. At all. I have tried with zero success. Sadly Mr. WillRunForChocolate can't cook a decent steak either. The only time I enjoy a filet mignon is when I dine at a restaurant.
Just for fun, and because a few friends were asking, I'll try to post review of some of the foods. While this sampler pack is a special item, the
Beetnik website has all those delicious products, plus a ton more. All their foods use all natural grass fed beef, cage free poultry, sustainable seafood and high quality fruits, veggies and nuts. Their foods do not contain MSG, high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and flavorings, hormones, or antibiotics.
What particular impressed me is that Beetnik has a TON of gluten free items. No more reading labels with a magnifying glass if you are celiac or gluten sensitive like me. They also denote some menu items as "paleo." I did not see an official definition of how they define paleo (because there are various interpretations) but I am assuming they mean containing meats, seafood, veggies, fruit and nuts only. No grains, dairy or root vegetables.
I look forward to trying many of these goodies in the upcoming days. Since the $69 Amazon Local deal is good in my area for another four days, I may order another pack if I am pleased with the food!
